Protecting The Freedom To Write

Internships & Jobs

Internship

PEN USA is an 82-year old membership organization of professional writers united under the common goal of nurturing a diverse literary community locally, and protecting and promoting freedom of expression. Much of the work that we do involves high-profile literary events designed to foster a literary culture and to support aspiring writers.

Interns are involved with the various aspects of planning and implementing successful literary events and programs including: community writing panels and toolboxes, a literary awards gala, high-profile literary readings, and community outreach campaigns. Interns will be involved with all aspects of planning and implementation including: marketing, research, publicity, materials development, writing and editing, and event logistics.

The ideal intern will be interested and knowledgeable about contemporary literary arts and writers, will be creative, intuitive, detail-oriented, and quick. We are looking for someone who has strong interpersonal skills (as this person will be interacting with published writers and other industry professionals), computer savvy (either MAC or PC - any design experience helpful), and strong writing and proofreading skills.

More about working for PEN
PEN USA is a small casual office located on the campus of Antioch University in Culver City. Free parking will be provided. In the past 3 years, 2 of PEN’s interns have been offered full-time employment at PEN USA, and while interning is not a guarantee of employment, we do consider interns first whenever a position becomes available.

We are now seeking interns for the fall. Academic credit and/or a modest stipend are available.
