Protecting The Freedom To Write

Friends of PEN

The benefits of Friendship include:

Exclusive invitations throughout the year to receptions and literary events with renowned literary figures discussing issues related to freedom of expression, literacy, and the literary life. Past speakers at Friends events include Richard North Patterson, Dee Dee Myers, Michael York, Greg Palast, April Smith, Jervey Tervalon, Arianna Huffington, Gioconda Belli and Tom Hayden.

Author 2 Author book groups featuring two or more authors of newly released books in conversation with the audience. These intimate gatherings at private homes offer a rare opportunity for you to chat with favorite authors such as Peter Lefcourt, Diane Leslie or Robert Crais.

Screenings of new films with a literary theme, followed by discussion with the screenwriters. Past Friends screenings have featured Q&A with screenwriters Steve Zaillian, Bill Broyles, Robert Schenkkan and Wes Anderson.

Currently, Friends events are held throughout the greater Los Angeles area. We hope to expand to other regions in the near future.
