International PEN has announced that the David T.K. Wong short story contest will not be held after 2006. In a joint letter, Jirí Grušá President of International PEN; Joanne Leedom-Ackerman, International Secretary; and Caroline McCormick, Executive Director of International PEN said, “We would… like to take this opportunity to inform you that the Trustees of the International PEN foundation together with the International PEN Board have taken the decision to end the David T. K Wong prize and cancel the planned prize for 2007. This difficult decision was made because of a large number of factors, including economic considerations regarding the continuation of the prize and PEN’s longer term strategy for the future. We hope this will not cause too much inconvenience to your Centre.”
