Chinese dissident Shi Tao has been in jail since November 2004 on charges of releasing state secrets. His crime was to pass on the content of a memo sent out by the Chinese government detailing restrictions on press coverage for the anniversary of Tiannamen Square to an International news website. Shi Tao has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment and two years deprivation of political rights. He is now serving his sentence at Chishan Prison, Yuanjiang City, Hunan Province, China.

- For the Chinese government to release Shi Tao
- Reminding Chinese officials of their responsibility under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to protect free expression
- Mentioning Shi Tao’s many awards and accomplishments including the Golden Pen of Freedom from the World Association of Newspapers and an International Press Freedom Defender Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists.
