THE RATTLING WALL, Issue 3: Reading & Release
Reading lineup announced for the event, which will take place at Hollywood Forever and celebrate the journal’s third issue.
Los Angeles, CA: Continuing its collaborative reading series, PEN Center USA will release The Rattling Wall, Issue 3, at Hollywood Forever on November 10, 2012. Doors for the event will open at 8 PM. The reading will begin at 9 PM and feature Los Angeles Times book critic David L. Ulin (The Lost Art of Reading: Why Books Matter in a Distracted Time), James Meetze (Dayglo), Jillian Lauren (Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, Pretty), Angel Nafis (BlackGirl Mansion), Sean Carswell (Madhouse Fog), and Joshua Mohr (Damascus). Prior to the reading a short film by Danny Corey and Heather Simons, which details the making of the issue, will be screened. The event will finish with a book signing. The Rattling Wall, a literary journal published in Los Angeles by Narrow Books, specializes in short fiction, travel essays, and poetry.
The Rattling Wall, Issue 3, features new work by Sean Carswell, Weston Cutter, Trinie Dalton, Ben Epstein, Matthew Fluharty, Panio Gianopoulos, Benj Hewitt, Rhoda Huffey, Mandy Kahn, Sophie Klahr, Jim Krusoe, Joseph Lapin, Jillian Lauren, Suzanne Lummis, S. P. MacIntyre, Bev Magennis, Joseph Mattson, Kyle McCord, James Meetze, Joshua Mohr, Amelia Morris, Angel Nafis, Emily Rapp, Kate Reeves, Rachel Reynolds, Brian Rooney, Marytza K. Rubio, Robert Silva, David L. Ulin, Amy E. Wallen, Kim Young, and an excerpt from the forthcoming novella Daddy Love by Joyce Carol Oates.
The featured artist for The Rattling Wall, Issue 3, is Ben Tegel. Tegel illustrates for books and magazines (Flaunt, Beautiful/Decay), for music venues (House of Blues, Viper Room), and for T-shirts (Hello Minor, B/D Apparel, Das Monk). Tegel’s work will also be shown the night of the release in a series of projections.
The Rattling Wall is edited by Michelle Meyering, who is Director of Programs and Events at PEN Center USA. Meyering holds degrees from University of Redlands and American University. She currently teaches in the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program.
