INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

PEN Center USA, a literary nonprofit based in Beverly Hills, is seeking an intern to provide support to the organization's staff. Ideal candidates will be aware of PEN Center USA's activities, with a strong interest in PEN's impact in Los Angeles, and a desire to support the literary community. The office is a hands-on setting focused on publishing, literary events, digital outreach, and media analysis. 
 
For instance, the PEN Center USA Intern will work directly with PEN Center USA's Program Coordinator of Digital Media and Membership to develop content and modes of analysis for PEN Center USA’s website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and associated accounts. Other staff-assigned projects may include outreach to publishers, membership constituents, and program alumni. Proofreading is a major day-to-day duty. 
 

General Summary of Responsibilities:

  • performing day-to-day duties, including copyediting, database management, and associated clerical work.
  • weekly analysis of social media tools, website traffic, and associated campaigns.
  • support in developing online outreach campaigns for PEN Center USA programs. 

Internship Requirements:

  • excellent communication skills, ability to multi-task and organize. 
  • must be interested in the greater literary world and associated issues, interested in working at and attending literary events.
  • excellent proof-reading skills.
  • working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and social media tools.
  • experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Filemaker, and InDesign a plus.
  • experience with basic HTML and web content management a major plus.
